Hair as a bond.
Before photography became the norm, the beloved would send a locket of hair in a necklace to her fiancé so that they could always be together. In the 19th century especially, it was common to keep a person's hair to transform it into personalized jewelry such as a bracelet, or a ring.
These objects become tokens of love or promises of memory. Nowadays, young artists use hair to make personalized jewelry.
